Neshtiman Ramathan took part in the Full Time Course in Autumn 2019. Three years earlier, she began volunteering in the Kurdish region of Northern Irak and this is when her career in peace and conflict work began. Since July 2019 she is part of the Pro Peace-Team in Erbil and Project Manager working on capacity building, mediation and dialogue with local NGOs and civil society actors.
"This beautiful experience made me really emotional and motivates me to keep in touch with the people – also after the end of the course."
Neshtiman RamathanParticipant in the qualification course at the Academy for Conflict Transformation 2019
Apart from the theoretical foundation of peace and conflict work and an overview of fundamental methods and concepts, Neshtiman found the units on self-care and communication to be very helpful for her position. In different units, she was able to bring the situation in Irak and her knowledge to the center of the seminar by offering it as a case study. This allowed her to reflect together with her colleagues on her work, the program and the cooperation with NGOs and civil society actors, and it offered her a fresh new perspective on it.
Neshtiman described the trustful relationship between participants and facilitators as an intensive experience which greatly contributed to the learning process and content exchange of the participants. She describes one of the exercises of the seminar “Creative approaches to peace and conflict work”: “At some moment the music was playing and the instructor said:´Look at the people around you.’ I started looking at everyone while the slow music was playing and I started thinking about these people and what experiences made them the persons who they are now. This beautiful experience made me really emotional and motivates me to keep in touch with them – also after the end of the course.”
