Preparing teams for work in conflict transformation or conflict-sensitive work often calls for specific knowledge, methods, reflection and the ability to act in conflicts. In the Academy for Conflict Transformation, we recognise that peace and conflict work is diverse, context-dependent and constantly evolving. For this, we also work directly with organisations to jointly develop and carry out trainings, in addition to our open courses. These formats are tailored for the needs of their staff or a wider audience within a specific project or programme. A range of topics related to conflict transformation and peacebuilding can be covered.

What We Offer

We develop tailored trainings or joint projects for INGOs and CSOs, peacebuilding and conflict transformation actors, humanitarian and development actors and governmental agencies.

In our trainings, we create learning spaces where theory meets practice. Our educational concept focuses on self-reflection, responsibility, and exchange within a participatory learning process. One of our central concerns is fostering a personal attitude oriented towards peace-related values.

Our customised trainings are built in close dialogue with the client to match your needs and goals. These can include foundational and advanced modules in the area of conflict transformation, such as

  • Introduction to peace and conflict work
  • Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning in Peacebuilding, for example conflict analysis, and conflict-sensitive project planning, Reflecting on Peace Practice (RPP)
  • Thematic areas, like Humanitarian-Development-Peace-Nexus, environmental peacebuilding, dialogue in shrinking spaces
  • Cross-cutting approaches in peacebuilding, such as trauma- and gender-sensitivity as well as reflecting on power dynamics

Each training considers the local context in which the participants are embedded. Our trainings may be conducted online, in person, or, where applicable, in a hybrid format.

How We Work

We bring together our international network of over 110 experienced trainers with our educational advisors, combining diverse perspectives, hands-on experience, and proven methodologies for customised training.

Each tailor-made training is developed through a collaborative process that ensures feasibility, relevance and quality as:

  • Jointly assessing whether our expectations, goals and capacities align to ensure a meaningful and feasible collaboration
  • Clarifying training goals and priorities as well as administrative, financial, contractual, and logistical arrangements
  • Matching a suitable facilitator or a team of trainers, and appointing an educational advisor for the pedagogical quality assurance
  • Consulting with the person responsible for the project and, where possible, the participants to better understand expectations, experience, and working context
  • Developing a training concept that reflects both organisational needs and the lived realities of participants
  • Deciding on the option of including preparatory and follow-up meetings with participants
