Disability-Sensitive Peacebuilding: From Conflict Analysis to Intervention Design
Facilitator: Björn Eser
Date: November 24 from 10:00 to 12:00 CET
How would your conflict analysis change if persons with diverse disabilities helped define its questions, interpret its findings, and identify its strategic implications? And would those insights materially change the resulting peacebuilding intervention?
This short, interactive online masterclass offers an introduction to disability-sensitive peacebuilding. It approaches disability not as a separate sector or an additional target group, but as an essential lens for understanding conflict, exclusion, participation, power, and peace.
Participants will explore practical ways to:
- identify disability-related blind spots in conflict analysis;
- involve persons with disabilities and their representative organizations meaningfully;
- recognize environmental, communication, institutional, and attitudinal barriers;
- recognize persons with disabilities as actors and peacebuilders and not only as vulnerable people;
- translate analysis findings into concrete intervention choices;
- incorporate accessibility, influence, and accountability into planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
The session will combine concise conceptual inputs with real-world examples, guided reflection, and practical application. Participants will leave with questions and approaches that they can apply to their own analysis and program-design processes.
The masterclass is particularly relevant for peacebuilding and conflict-transformation practitioners, facilitators, program managers, advisers, researchers, donors, and professionals working at the intersection of peace, rights, inclusion, and social justice.
