How can municipalities respond when conflicts arise locally? What roles can they play in preventing escalation, creating space for dialogue, and strengthening social cohesion?
Join our online X-Change on 1 October, 09:00–11:00 AM (CEST), for an exchange on municipalities in conflict. The Competence Centre Krisen-Dialog-Zukunft (KDZ) of Aktion Zivilcourage e. V. and Pro Peace’s “Kommune und Konflikt” team will introduce their approaches, experiences and practical perspectives on addressing conflict and its underlying causes in Germany.
The X-Change offers space to explore different municipal roles in conflict, compare approaches, and discuss how local actors can work constructively with tensions and their causes.

About the speakers:
Dr. Cathleen Bochmann heads the Competence Centre “Krisen-Dialog-Zukunft” (KDZ) and has been working for many years in the areas of municipal conflict resolution, civic dialogue, and social cohesion. As a political scientist, she combines academic research with advising, supporting, and facilitating municipalities in conflict situations.
Ann Rogalski is a staff member at the Competence Centre “Krisen-Dialog-Zukunft” (KDZ) of Aktion Zivilcourage e. V. There, she serves as a consultant for dialogue formats, civic participation, and conflict mediation. After earning her master’s degree in peace and conflict studies, she worked for several years as a research analyst and workshop facilitator in the field of democracy promotion, as well as a project manager for nonprofit organizations.
Aktion Zivilcourage e. V. is a German non-profit organisation working to strengthen democracy, civic engagement and social cohesion. Its Competence Centre “Krisen-Dialog-Zukunft” (KDZ) supports municipalities in conflict prevention, crisis intervention and dialogue processes.
During the past seven years, Wolfgang Dörner from Pro Peace has been accompanying around ten multi-year-processes of ´local conflict counselling´ in Germany. Before that, he has been working with Pro Peace abroad (Philippines and Cambodia for about four years). His educational background is a mixture of Social work and Political science and he enjoyed additional training in systemic organizational development.
